Her diverse skills, natural affability, and creativity enable Sarah to develop personalized therapeutic plans.
Sarah has helped patients suffering from specific injuries, and also provides patients with periodic maintenance massage with a host of potential benefits that include: " Injury prevention or frequency reduction " Accelerated muscle recovery " Improved circulation " Attenuated stress and anxiety " Enhanced immunity " Elevated mood and temperament
Child athletes: Working with children for over 10 years I have come to see the intense dedication of young athletes. I have also seen the results of overtraining and how the demands of intense levels of physical activity can cause injury or strain. The ever increasing workload that younger children are requiring of their bodies increases the risk of injury. If not managed properly and effectively the injuries caused by overuse can affect normal physical growth and maturation. Prevention is the key to success and massage has been proven in this provenance.
Children's growth spurts and skeletal growth can place strain and lead to tight muscles and tendons making them especially prone to strains, pulls and tears.
Ashiatsu Oriental Bar Therapy (AOBT): Created by ruthie hardie in 1995 with roots in the eastern modalities AOBT (Ashiatsu Oriental Bar Therapy) is often refered to as 'the deepest most luxurious massage on the planet' due to the broadness and depth of pressure. Incorporating overhead wooden bar supports, the therapist uses body weight and gliding foot compression on strategic points along the muscles. When performed near the spine, this form of effleurage creates a "push, pull, pumping" effect on the intervertebral disc space and relieves irritations on the spinal nerve caused by inflammation and swelling. Deep, compressive, gliding strokes allow for the opening of the spinal column as well as elongatation and stretching of shortened and tight muscles for pain relief. Especially chronic lower back pain, bulging discs, and scoliosis.
Sports massage: Designed to be used primarily by serious athletes who train continuously. It focuses on the muscles relevant to the particular athletic activity. It includes pre-event, post-event and maintenance techniques that promote greater athletic endurance and performance, decreasing chances of injury and reduce recovery time. Massage therapy is paramount in maintaining health mentally and physically. Massage regulates blood pressure, increases circulation and lymph flow, enabling faster recovery from workouts, by reducing muscle tension and flushing toxins from the muscles and overall system, relieving pain and improving flexibility. When an athlete sustains an injury, skillful massage therapy can often speed and improve the quality of healing.
Deep tissue: Techniques which utilize deep tissue massage are administered to affect the sub-layer of musculature and fascia. Given to advanced training and a more thorough understanding of anatomy and physiology the therapist is able to reach deeper sub-layers of musculature to aid in the relief chronic pain and injury rehabilitation, also reducing inflammation-related pain. It is generally integrated with other massage techniques.
Kinesio-taping method: The Kinesio Taping Method is felt to cause physiological effects on several body systems. The systems affected by the body are thought to include the circulatory/lymphatic, neural, muscular, and fascial systems, as well as the joints. Kinesio Taping is currently being used by therapists to change muscle tone, increase lymphatic circulation, correct movement patterns, and improve posture. The Kinesio Taping Method is a unique method of applying Kinesio Tex Tape in a specific manner to create change in the aforementioned systems.
Prenatal pregnancy perinatal: Many methods of massage and somatic therapies are both effective and safe prenatally, during labor and postpartum periods of women's pregnancies. Prenatally, specific techniques can reduce pregnancy discomforts and concerns and enhance the physiological and emotional well-being of both mother and fetus shortening labor times and easing pain and anxiety. In the postpartum period, specialized techniques rebalance structure, physiology, and emotions of the new mother, and may help her to bond with and care for her infant.
